Helping You Create Meaningful Memories

Preserving Memories on a Budget July 12, 2009

By now, we are all tired of the ‘R’ word – recession.  Other words that I’m tired of hearing are:  unemployment, Dow Jones Industrial Average, bailout, stimulus and stacation.

Maybe you are doing some fun things at home this summer, and there is nothing wrong with that.  Are you taking photos?  What are you going to do with them?  You need to preserve these memories and I can help you do this on a budget!

First, your memory album does not have to be expensive or ‘over the top’ embellished.  I like to make a book more in your style.  Some people are simplistic and linear, others are shabby chic and some are artistic.  With the array of products on the market today, it’s easy for me to match your style.

Let’s start working on something today.  You don’t have to complete a 20 page album all at once.  You will find I am extremely flexible – if you want 5 pages done, I can do that.  If you can only afford 1 page each month, then that’s fine too.  I want you to begin to organize your thoughts and memories and record all those special moments before they flee your mind forever!

It’s been a week since the 4th of July already!  How was your family picnic?  Did you go out to see fireworks or did you have a backyard show like we did?  Did you take lots of pictures?  I started to and then by the time the fireworks started, the camera was sitting on a table somewhere, plus I was having fun lighting them!

How can you preserve some of your 4th of July memories?  Try this:

  • Save your labels from your fireworks.  Of course, make sure you aren’t saving fireworks that weren’t fired off.
  • If you went to a local event, do you have any memorabilia from the event – maybe a program or a plastic flag that was handed out?
  • Articles from your community newsletter highlighting any events you attended
  • Journaling – make sure you record any funny moments or things that made the day a memorable one.

Documenting the moments your family shares is important.  Ask family members to contribute by writing down their favorite part of the day.  Remember, pages can look like works of art, but it is really the pictures and memories that make the album.

Christmas in July! July 7, 2009

Well, here we are again – it’s July and pretty soon the shelves will be stocked with Christmas things!  I was in Michael’s the other day and they were clearing space for all those cute Halloween village items, but really – Halloween in July?  It’s bad enough that the Back To School items have hit the shelves.  The poor kids just got out of school!

In keeping with this mid-way point in the year, why not start thinking about those holiday gifts?  If you purchase one a month, you’ll have 5 people off your list by the time December rolls around.  What better way to share in the spirit of giving than by purchasing a handmade craft or a custom designed album!  I also have Christmas cards ready to go as well.

Be sure to click onto the RWC website by clicking this LINK.  You’ll see some ready to go gifts as well as information on custom albums.

Heritage Scrapping July 3, 2009

I’ve recently started scrapbooking all the old photos that my Mom has in a very old, non-archival safe album.  Since my parents are older (78 & 82), I thought it best to try & record the stories behind the pictures.  I think my parents are enjoying what I am doing as it takes them down a walk of memory lane.  I wanted to share a page I made of my Mom:

Photos of Mom from the '50s

Do you have old photos of your family?  What are you doing with them?  Do you know the who, when, where, what behind the photo?  Are you taking steps to preserve them?

Let me help you create a memory book of these precious and priceless photos.  Contact me so we can put a plan together!

This weekend is a celebration of our country’s heritage, and most families will celebrate with picnics, cookouts and firework viewing (or playing, as in my family)!  So, is the camera ready?  Did you charge or buy some new batteries?  Make sure you do!  You don’t want to miss any priceless moments.

How does one photograph fireworks?  I found a great blog post on it:

If you look at the bottom of the article, some readers added additional comments that you might find helpful too!

Just remember to stay safe this 4th of July and HAVE FUN!

God Bless America!
